Troubleshooting Tips

Ink Cartridges

Ink cartridge is leaking.

Some of our cartridges may have been overfilled by the factory. We suggest you open the cartridges at a sink or over your garbage can to avoid possible leaks from damaging your valuable items.

The internal pressure in the vacuum is not balanced. The cartridge should work fine anyway. Let the cartridge sit (printhead down) on a paper towel for a few minutes, then clean it up and install.

(For a high temperature area) When the cartridge is opened, the ink may be bubbling/dripping out of the cartridge if it has been in a high temperature environment for a long time. This is because the heat creates pressure within the sealed cartridge and that pressure blows the ink out when the cartridge is opened. Please try chilling the cartridge in the refrigerator (not freezer) for a couple hours before use.

Cartridge has a different shape The shape of our compatible cartridges may look a little different from OEM cartridges, but they are designed for use in your printer, and will fit.

My cartridge won't fit

Please make sure to remove the plastic protective case from the cartridge.

Low ink message showing at the printer

All of our cartridges are fully filled with ink. However, there are a small number of hp ink cartridges that may not have been reset fully during the remanufacturing process. Either bypass the low ink message or disable the ink level system on your printer. Although your printer will not track the ink levels, our cartridges will print fine from start to finish.

On certain Epson and Lexmark printers, if the printer is saying you cannot print due to low ink, please press and hold the "stop" or "cancel" button for 10 seconds. This will reset the counter and allow you to use the cartridges normally.

The print quality is not very good or the printout contains no ink Includes most Brother, Canon, Epson, and Xerox models.

Make sure that you have removed the foil or plastic strip covering the vent hole and the nozzle. (Usually a bright color, but sometimes clear.)

Make sure that the vent hole at the top of the cartridge and the nozzle are unblocked by any tape or plastic strip.

To ensure that the vent hole is unobstructed, use a paper clip or another small, pointed object to probe the vent for blockages.

Run the head cleaning cycle 2-3 times. Please make sure that the printer is set online (at the computer) and increase the darkness setting at the printer.

If the color is still off, please install a whole set of our cartridges at your printer. It is possible that the formula of our ink is different from that of your original compatible cartridge.

Note that Epson printers should be turned on and used at LEAST once a month, or preferably once a week. If the printer has not been used in over 5-6 months, Epson recommends that you replace the ink cartridges. Cheap toner cartridges can be found on V4ink website.

How to check the ink or toner levels on my printer

From the Systray Icon:

None of the following steps work if you have not installed the software that was included with your printer. It's also important to note that every printer is different. These rules are meant as a general guideline.

1. Turn on the printer.

2. Locate the printer settings, often found by right-clicking the printer icon in the Systray, located in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.

3. Within the printer settings software, you should see the toner levels for the currently installed printer cartridge. Below are a few different examples of how the ink level screens may look.

Through the Windows Control Panel: The following steps will work for nearly any printer. However, if you have not installed the software that came with the printer, you may not be able to view the ink or toner levels.

1. Open the Control Panel.

2. Find and open the Printers option.

3. Right-click on the icon for the printer and select the Printer properties option.

4. Within the printer properties window, you can see the ink or toner levels for the currently installed hp ink cartridges.

Through the Printer Menu:

Keep in mind that every printer is different and the following steps are generalized. For explicit instructions on checking ink levels, consult your printer's documentation.

1. Turn your printer on.

2. Locate the Menu button and use the appropriate navigation keys to find a Status or Reports section.

3. Print a System Data or Status page to see current toner levels.

Troubleshooting of Toner LED flashing

I just replaced the tn450 toner cartridge and the LCD continues to display the message "Toner Low" / "Replace Toner" / "Toner Ended" or the Toner LED is still on or flashing.

If the machine's display or LED continues to show the Toner Low, Replace Toner or Toner Ended error indication after installing a new toner cartridge, follow the steps below to resolve the issue.

1. Verify that you didn't replace a different consumable by mistake. The Brother machine has separate consumables - the toner cartridge and the drum unit. Verify you replace only the toner cartridge and not the drum unit.

2. Verify you are using a NEW Brother toner cartridge. When replacing the toner cartridge, you MUST install a brand new, unused genuine Brother toner cartridge in order to reset the toner status. Swapping toner cartridges from one machine to another or installing a partially used toner cartridge may cause this issue. Brother machines control their image quality for the most suitable print quality by monitoring toner consumption. If you install a partially used toner cartridge, your Brother machine is unable to recognise toner consumption correctly which will cause this issue. Therefore, when you replace the toner cartridge, use a brand new toner cartridge, not a partially used toner cartridge from another machine.

3. Verify you are using a GENUINE Brother toner cartridge. For optimum performance, use only new genuine Brother brand consumables which are specially formulated to ensure top print quality. Printing with non-Brother genuine toner cartridges may reduce not only the print quality but also the performance quality and life of the machine. If damage is caused to the drum unit or other parts of the machine as a result of using hp ink cartridges, any repairs required as a result will not be covered by the Brother limited warranty.

4. Verify the toner cartridge is installed correctly. If you install a new genuine Brother toner cartridge but the "Toner Low", "Replace Toner" or "Toner Ended" error indication remains, the toner cartridge may not be installed correctly. Reinstall the toner cartridge, referring to the instructions on how to replace the toner cartridge.

5. Clean the corona wire. This issue may have occurred because the corona wire has become dirty.

6. Update the firmware to the latest version.

Go to the Downloads section of this website to check the latest version of the firmware.

If you see the Firmware Update Tool in the Downloads section, check detail information to identify the firmware version. If the firmware version of your Brother machine is earlier than the latest version, update the firmware. Follow the installation instructions on the download page.

How to Replace a Toner Cartridge in a Laser Printer

Printer cartridge eventually run out of ink after continued use. Being able to replace them swiftly and correctly lets you get back to work faster. If you want to learn how to replace a toner cartridge in a laser printer, follow these steps.

1. Turn on the printer by pressing the power button. You have to have the device on to access brother toner cartridge of most units.
2. Open the printer door to access the toner cartridges. In some models, you will have to press and hold the release button and pull the lid toward you. When the cover is lifted on most laser printers, the carriage automatically slides to the right side of the unit for easy access to the cartridges.
3. Remove the spent cartridge from the printer. Depending on the model, you may have to unhook the cradle holding the cartridge in place, or press the release tab inward to unlatch the cartridge you want to remove. With some printers, you may have to hold down the blue release button at the side of the cartridge carriage. Once unlocked, remove the cartridge by pulling it up and toward you.
4. Take the new cartridge out of the box, but keep it in its plastic packaging. Sometimes, during shipping, ink can settle in the toner drum, resulting in poor-quality copies. To prevent this problem, gently shake the cartridge. This helps fully distribute toner throughout the cartridge.
5. Remove the new cartridge from its packaging and pull the colored tab on the cartridge. This removes the protective tape from the bottom of the cartridge. While doing this, be careful not to touch the imaging drum on the bottom of the print cartridge. Smudges on the drum can cause print-quality problems.
6. Put the replacement cartridge in. It should snap in place securely. On devices with a locking cradle, be sure to snap it shut around the cartridge before closing the lid.
7. Your printer is ready to be used. Print a test page. Your computer will automatically recognize that a new hp ink cartridges has been installed. Most computers will ask you if you want to print a test page to ensure that the new cartridge is functional. Click "OK." The computer will scan the printer settings and eventually produce a full-color page.
