It does nothing for us, now that we are no longer on the gold standard. And it would be a painful psychological, and possibly financial, blow to the “pro-default” Republicans. It would be an especially appropriate punishment, if they had been increasing their gold holdings in anticipation of the economic uncertainty that they are now causing.
