Dome Security Cameras Don’t Give Away the Camera’s Direction [15 Oct 2013|03:41am]

Typical security cameras, such as box, cube, and other types, give away which direction they are pointing and therefor are easily avoided by thieves, vandals, and other mischievous persons.

In some cases, the lens viewing angle and the covered area match closely enough where this is not a problem, but if the camera is covering a general open area or location where a crook could sneak under or around the viewing area and still get to the destination, consider a dome security camera instead.

What makes dome CCTV cameras special?

A 360º blacked-out or reflective plastic dome shields the lens from being (easily) spotted. When installing the dome camera(sony 540 TVL IR ptz camera), you simply rotate the lens and internal plastic shielding to point in the direction you want to monitor, and potential thieves can’t (easily) tell where it is focused. This uncertainty keeps criminals guessing and will typically deter them.

Some dome cameras, like the large ones you see in malls, retail outlets, etc, have a tinted black dome, rather than a plastic insert that you typically see in smaller ones. These work similarly, you just point the lens wherever and it is usually mounted high enough where persons viewing the camera can’t easily tell where it is pointing.

What if they just try to destroy the camera?

Luckily, most outdoor dome cameras are also vandal resistant, meaning they are built with materials that can withstand blunt trauma that someone may try to inflict to take the sony 650TVL IR ptz camera offline.

If you are installing surveillance cameras that are easily reachable on eaves or walls, we recommend going with vandal resistant versions.
